Paul Sawyier Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1865 - d. 1917

Artist Paul Sawyier was an American landscape painter, primarily of scenery in Kentucky and around the New York City area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He also painted portraits, including one of Mark Twain in his twilight years. Paul Sawyier's paintings of landscapes frequently included a focal point or accent elements such as well-worn bridges, lazy country lanes, or families enjoying the scenery.

Artist Paul Sawyier painted in Impressionist style, with short strokes and delicate, pastel colors. His Kentucky landscapes were chiefly watercolors and most of his New York landscapes, many of Brooklyn or the Catskills, were in oil. Paul Sawyier prints of his work are abundant, particularly as modern giclees. The Kentucky Historical Society retains one of the largest collections of his original works. Collectors can find many other landscape paintings for sale online and at Invaluable.
