Errol Sawyer Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1943 -

Errol Sawyer grew up in the Bronx and Harlem in New York, where he studied history and political science at NYU. In 1966 he bought his first camera with which he travelled to South-America where he found his vocation as photographer. In his early career he lived and worked in Paris and London, where he worked on photo shoots for Elle and the French Vogue. In 1978 he returned to New York, where he worked for the American Vogue and many other magazines. Despite the many assignments Sawyer devoted most of his time to his passion, ‘fine art’ photography. His work was exhibited at the 4th Street Gallery in New York, Royal Photographic Society in Bath, No Name Gallery in Basel and La Chambre Claire Gallery in Paris.
Work by Sawyer is part of the permanent collections of La Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, Schomburg Library of Black Culture in New York, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Tate Modern in London.
Sawyer, now living in Amsterdam, always works analogue and develops his photographs very carefully himself in his own studio in order to create his own characteristic style.
