          dating: 1860 - 1865 provenance: USA, Rifled, octagonal, 36 cal. barrel (visible rifling, signs of pitting inside), with brass, cusped foresight. Mark 'H'. Smooth, six-shot cylinder. Working mechanism. Frame marked on the upper part with factory mark and patents of 1856, 1859 and 1860. Grip with smooth walnut grip scales featuring traces of marks on the bottom and remains of a military inspection stamp. Stamp 'C' on the base of the cartridge rammer and on the frame. A few faint traces of finishing in some places, pitting. Wide trigger guard with trigger and ring loading lever. length 36 cm.

          Manufactured circa 1861-1865 for contract use with the Army and Navy with an estimated total of 20,000 made. 7 - 1/8" octagon barrel in .36 caliber with screw-in cone front sight and frame mounted rear sight. Heart shaped trigger guard with with lever below trigger to cause cylinder to advance upon each pull. 2 piece plain walnut grips. Matching serial numbers observed on right side of backstrap beneath grip, and on barrel beneath rammer assembly. Martially inspector marked on various major parts. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel, frame, and hammer turned a gray patina with moderate oxidation throughout. Cylinder and rammer assembly retain attractive amounts of bright original bluing. Grips are very good with light wear as cleaned with no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine.           Approximately 20,000 made circa 1861 with 7 - 1/8" octagon barrel in .36 caliber percussion with blue finish and walnut grips. It is a six shot, single action of sorts in which the hammer is cocked with one trigger then fired with the other. Very popular during the Civil War. CONDITION: All brown patina. Grips show wear.           Excellent Civil War Savage Navy Model Percussion Revolver

          Estimate: $4000 - 5000 This unique revolver was manufactured from 1861 to 1865. These revolvers have a 7 inch octagon barrel and heart-shaped trigger guard. The barrel, loading lever, cylinder, and frame are blue. The guard, hammer, and triggers are casehardened. The grips are two piece oil-finished walnut with the left panel numbered to the gun. The frame top strap is marked "SAVAGE R.F.A. Co, MIDDLETOWN. CT./ H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856/JANUARY 18 1859. MAY 15 1860". The unique action functions with a lever and a trigger. The lever has a loop for the middle finger. When the lever is pulled back the cylinder turns and the hammer is cocked, the lever is released and the trigger is pulled to fire the weapon. BBL: 7 inch octagon Stock: Gauge: 36 percussion Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 1917 Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 60% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The trigger, loading lever and cocking lever retain 70% vivid original case colors. The grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
