Hap Sakwa was a leader in the modern woodworking movement that revolutionized the craft in the 1970s and 1980s, elevating it to an art form by creating narrative sculptural objects using polychrome woods and found objects. From 1988 to 1993, Sakwa took an artistic turn to another facet producing a series of mosaic sculptures and pop art found objects juxtaposing American imagery, puns and brightly colored patterns. In 1994 he turned his attention to photography and became one of the country's most distinguished jewelry photographers.
