Their purpose is to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed in a series of celebrations during which cities are decorated, tents set up and sweets and candies distributed. Much of the artist's work demonstrates his love of Egypt and its cultural practices. By recreating a Moulid candy doll in terracotta El Sagini immortalises the tradition and celebration of the Mawlid Al-Nabi.
