Karen Ryan, an alumni of the Royal College of Art in London, was at the forefront of the burgeoning Design/Art movement of the 2000s. Working at the cross section of Art and Design, her work repurposed and/or incorporated salvaged pre-existing works, a concept subsequently returned to by others from both disciplines, from Ai Weiwei to Martino Gamper. By taking an existing work, Ryan redefines its impact and purpose with an artistic intervention, making something unique and innovative from pieces which previously may have been mass-made. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and the USA. The following twenty lots are of Ryan's design and showcase her artistic identity.
