Signed, titled and dated in pencil, upper right recto. Likely a study for the artist''s same-titled 1917 color woodcut, from the portfolio Newark: A Series of Engravings on Wood, published by Carteret Book Club, Newark. Ex-collection Henry Waldes, Czechoslovakia. Waldes'' collection of Ruzicka''s work was confiscated by the Germans during World War II. After the war, they entered the collection of the Czechoslovakia National Gallery, until the fall of the Communist government, when the works were finally returned to Mr. Waldes.
