Russ, Michael A.: Lee Kalima, Angelo Rositto, Tom Waits

    Est: €2,600 - €3,000

"Lee Kalima, Angelo Rositto and Tom Waits, L.A. Swordfishtrombones" . 1983/printed later from a unique print. TinTone on Aludibond/Silver Industrial. 109 x 150 cm. Signed, titled, editioned 0/A and dated 99 by the photographer in lower margin; signed, annotated, editioned 2/7 and dated 2010 by the photographer in marker as well as photographer's stamps on the verso. Born in Berlin, Michael A. Russ has also lived in New York, Los Angeles and Paris. In 1973 he became the cover artist for Art Direction Magazine and began photographing sequential erotic images for various magazines such as Playboy , Vogue Hommes , Il and Photoreporter . In 1983 he exhibited large-format prints in Los Angeles using his TinTone technique. The musician Tom Waits saw the exhibition and was impressed with Russ' work. He asked Russ to take the cover image for his Swordfishtrombones album in 1983 and the image offered here is from that album series. Tintones are chemically toned gelatin silver prints which are then hand-colored. This print is an enlargement of one of Russ' smaller TinTone prints and has been mounted to aludibond, creating an interesting luminous effect. - In excellent condition. - With: A copy of the Swordfishtrombones cd.
