ANTONIO M. RUIZ WATERCOLOR ON PAPER BOARD. 1897-1964

        Est: $250 - $2,500

ANTONIO M. RUIZ (1897-1964) WATERCOLOR ON PAPER BOARD. SIGNED. 13 3/4" X 11" Born in Mexico City in 1897. Ruiz studied at the School of Fine Art in Mexico City. He was an assistant to Miguel Covarrubias on Treasure Island at the GGIE, 1939. Antonio Ruiz, better known as "El Corzo" or "El Corcito", was a painter satisfied with his work, always working under his own rules and although he was not part of any movement, he was guided by some innovative ideas that brought characters such as Dr. Atl and the Outdoor Schools. He was constantly motivated by the compositions of spaces, so that architecture was a face-to-face line in his work. Reflections were recurring in some of the author's works, where he captured dimensionality from an atypical perception. In this work he represented reflective objects with a trompe l'oeil effect. The light also plays in this compositional scheme of reflections, producing unusual shadows, however it is a realistic scene made on site. Those who knew "El Corzo" commented that his work spoke of his sympathy for the fusion of cultures; Juan O'Gorman, for example, came to express in his writings the admiration for the magnificent technique of the master Antonio Ruiz, whom he met by chance while giving him advice on painting. The exhibitions that he made were few, however in each of them the works were sold almost in their entirety. Currently, his works belong to collections and collections of museums and private galleries in Mexico and the United States. All items Located in Hollywood Florida Warehouse. Antonio M Ruiz 1897-1964 Mexico Signed 1963 Watercolor on Paper Piece is 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" Frame is 9 1/2" x 13" Antonio M. Ruíz (b. Texcoco, Mexico State, September 2, 1892 – d. Mexico City, October 9, 1964),[1] was a Mexican fine art painter and scenic designer otherwise known by his childhood nickname "El Corzo" or "El Corcito" (diminutive) which came about due to his resemblance to a popular Spanish bullfighter or torero. At first, Ruiz was sent to a religious boarding school in Morelia but then studied architecture and painting at the Academy of San Carlos, now the National School of Arts, at the age of 17 in 1914.[4] He studied with Manuel Rodríguez Lozano, Miguel Covarrubias, Julio Castellanos, Rufino Tamayo, Agustín Lazo, Luis Ortiz Monasterio, Gabriel Fernández Ledesma and Carlos Mérida.[2][4] He also studied at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria.[1] By his own account, he was mainly influenced by Saturnino Herrán and Germán Gedovius as they were his favorite teachers at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. Later he drew on inspiration from Flemish artists and Miguel Covarrubias. He also delved into some surrealism at one point, showed by his involvement in the Mexican International Surrealist Exhibition of 1940.[7] All items Located in in Hollywood Florida Warehouse For Shipping Call today for quote they have item numbers and Pak Mail is available for all your custom packaging and shipping needs.
