JOSEP ROYO (Barcelona, 1945). A Cor bert. Mixed media and collage (burlap and rope) on cardboard. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 97 x 91 cm; 100 x 95 cm (frame). The artist Josep Royo is especially recognized for his facet as a creator of tapestries. Together with Joan Miró, he was the creator of the Great Tapestry of the World Trade Center, which hung in the lobby of the south tower of the World Trade Center from 1974 until its destruction in 2001. A multidisciplinary artist deeply committed to abstract language, Josep Royo's fame as a tapestry designer precedes him. He began his training at the School of Drawing in Sant Cugat del Vallès, and later continued his studies at the Massana School in Barcelona. In 1959 he began working at the Aymat tapestry factory in Sant Cugat, which later became the Catalan Tapestry School. Through his work with textiles, Royo achieved international recognition, weaving the cartoons made by important artists of the time such as Joan Miró (for whom he created the famous "Tapís de Tarragona") or Antoni Tàpies. In 1964 he was also one of the founding members of the Grup d'Art, Lletres i Música. In the seventies he moved to Tarragona, where he opened his own tapestry workshop. Recognized for his own personal work, Royo has exhibited his work all over the world.

ANTONIO ORZAEZ (Madrid, 1933-2021); JOSEP ROYO (Barcelona, 1945). Set of twenty-six photographs in the studio of Josep Royo, talking with Miguel Gaspar. Provenance: Antonio Orzaez Private Collection (1933-2021). With Antonio Orzaez's stamp. Measurements: 24,5 x 18,5 cm (x26). This set belongs to the personal collection of Antoni Orzaez, the artists' photographer. His work in the Sala Gaspar, led him to capture and know the life of many essential creators for the history of it. In many cases his closeness with them turned into friendship, as for example with Josep Royo who personally gave him many works, dedicating them to him with great affection. A multidisciplinary artist deeply committed to abstract language, Josep Royo's fame as a tapestry designer precedes him. He began his training at the School of Drawing in Sant Cugat del Vallès, and later continued his studies at the Massana School in Barcelona. In 1959 he began working at the Aymat tapestry factory in Sant Cugat, which later became the Catalan Tapestry School. Orzaez directed his work towards the world of art, portraying and documenting the work and life of many artists who were indispensable in the development of Spanish painting and with whom he established personal friendships, such as Picasso, Tàpies, Clavé, Miró, etc. Throughout his life he built up a magnificent collection consisting of a multitude of cameras, lenses, lenses, books, photographs and works of art.
