    Bronze, green patina, sandstone Germany, around 2003 Günther Rothe (born 1947) - German painter, printmaker and sculptor Overall height: 139 cm Good Condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Sandstone sculpture with bronze replication of the prehistoric skull 'Sangiran II', created by Günther Rothe for the project 'Das ICH-Universum' This extraordinary sculpture was created by the artists Günther Rothe. On an ascending pillar of sandstone Rothe placed a bronze skull fragment. It is a copy of the 1.5 million year old skull of a Homo erectus named Sangiran II, which was discovered in the 1930s on the Indonesian island of Java. When Rothe saw the skull in 2003, the idea of the 'original human' came into his mind, which eventually developed into the project 'Das ICH-Universum', a universe that unites all people by their history, jet individually perceptible, just like the artwoks that emerges within this project. Due to the internationalization of the project, the term 'EGOUNIVERSUM' was established, as it is repeatedly carved into the sandstone sculpture presented here. The sculpture is in good condition with only slight signs of wear. The screw between bronze skull and sandstone sculpture is missing. Overall height: 139 cm. Günther Rothe (born 1947) Günther Rothe was born in 1947 in Lützen. He was trained by the Leipzig painter Professor Heinz Wagner. His artworks have philosophical and narrative character, they are both representational and abstract, its colors standing in the tradition of Impressionist paintings.
