Ann Rosener (1914 – 2012) Powell and California Street Cable Car, San Francisco.” Gelatin silver print, 1940’s. Rosener made many photographs for the FSA. Like those of Marion Post Wolcott, they often dealt with women’s issues, including women workers, as well as black and handicapped subjects. A brief marriage to a Los Angeles art dealer, after a stint as a Hollywood fashion photographer, led to friendships with many major painters and architects. The careful composition of this photograph shows greater artistry than the work of many better-known photographers. There is part of a pencil description probably in her hand on the verso, along with her PIX credit stamp.
