      Property of Richard Hanna & Byron (Steve) Dunham, Chicago and Savannah Description: James Rosati (NY/CT, 1912-1988), Upright #2, Corten Steel, 1975-78, edition 1/3, signed and dated, on a marble base. Provenance: Purchased from Atlanta Art Gallery April 6, 1995, for $8,000. James Rosati was an abstract expressionist sculptor. Rosati was a professional violinist before turning to sculpture in 1934. He was a member of the Eighth Street Club and exhibited alongside friends and fellow artists including Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, David Smith and Phillip Pavia. He was a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient and the subject of several solo exhibitions in his lifetime. He was a professor at Yale University from 1960-1973 and was a juror for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial design contest. Rosati is best known for his stainless-steel sculpture Ideogram which stood between the Twin Towers in New York City. Monumental sculptures created by Rosati can be found around the world including the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Museo della Scultural Conremporanea, Matera and many others. Measurements: Height: 72 in. x Width: 12 in. x Depth: 7 in. Condition: Good weathered condition, pitting to metal.
