(DISNEY) DON ROSA (1951-) Pie-eyed Mickey Mouse.

          Est: $700 - $1,000

DON ROSA (1951-) Pie-eyed Mickey Mouse. Comic artist sketch. Color marker on paper. 12 x 9 inches. Singed in lower right image. Inscribed to original owner. Original sketch of a 1930s-styled Mickey Mouse by celebrated Disney comic artist Don Rosa (b. 1951), drawn for a fan when his 'star' was first on the rise as a Disney comics creator. Rosa has written and drawn many Disney comics over the years inspired by the creations of his hero Carl Barks, including The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (1991). It is very uncommon for Don Rosa to draw Mickey Mouse for fans, making this charming piece a true rarity.

        • Don Rosa - The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck - The Empire Builder from Calisota, 1994
          May. 10, 2024

Don Rosa - The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck - The Empire Builder from Calisota, 1994

          Est: €4,300 - €6,000

pencil and ink on thin cardboard Original comic art created by Rosa for "The Empire Builder from Calisota", page 10 of the eleventh chapter of the celebrated saga The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck published for the first time in 1994, published in Italy with the title "Il cuore dell'impero" on Uncle Scrooge n. 80 in 1996. Among the most fascinating and controversial episodes of the entire saga, to the point of suffering heavy censorship in recent times, Don Rosa draws heavily on the famous story by Carl Barks entitled "Voodoo Hoodoo" ("Donald Duck and the Fetish") of 1949. The page presented by us is absolutely among the "key pages" of the entire saga, Scrooge after having deceived the sorcerer Matumbo into giving him up his rich lands (so as to become the richest duck in the world) he retreats to his tent where he will read a letter signed by his two sisters Matilda and Ortensia: << Dear Scrooge, your life has not been easy... we have tried to justify your bitterness, your cynicism. It was hard life that made you like this! But Scrooge, there's no excuse for your dishonesty! >>, this is the moment in which Scrooge begins to distance himself from his relatives by favoring his money, from now on he will actually be the richest duck, but he will live this condition alone and without affection. On two panels. Signed.
