Ronnebeck was an avante-garde artist, who was known for his paintings and lithographs.

Titled in Greek in pencil, left center * Isadora Duncan, circa 1912. 272x210 mm; 10x8 3/8 inches. Both with the artist's estate ink stamp, verso. Both ex-collection the artist's estate; thence by descent to current owner, private collection, Los Angeles. These drawings were executed in Paris around 1912, when Rönnebeck (1885-1947) was studying sculpture with Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. At the same time, Bourdelle was working on the relief panels of the famous American modern dancer, Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) for the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris, which opened in 1913.

With-- Yacht Races, lithograph, 1933. 343x233 mm; 13 1/2x9 5/8 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 19/25 in pencil, lower margin. Both ex-collection private collection, New York. Born in Germany, Rönnebeck (1885-1947) immigrated to the United States in 1922. Trained as an architect he chose art as a profession and, prior to coming to the U.S., trained and traveled through Europe befriending many of the artists of the day and become close friends with Marsden Hartley (1877-1943, see lot 91). He remained in New York for only a short period though produced a body of lithographs of the skyscraping city, of which Wall Street is one of the most iconic. Having visited Mabel Dodge Luhan (1879-1962) in New Mexico, and meeting his future wife at her home, he spent much of his later career in Colorado and New Mexico.
