The present piece is a good example for his oeuvre The present painting is a typical work of the Spanish artist Ramón Rodriguez Barcaza. It depicts a scene in a rural village, where colorfully dressed figures make music and talk. The artist presented a festive day in an atmospheric setting, but also gives a realistic description of Spanish daily rural life in the 19th century. The painting appears in good condition considering its age. There are framing marks. It shows small scattered retouchings. The stucco frame is painted in gold and black. It shows clear traces of use, especially at the corners. The framed work measures 96 x 114 cm. The octagonal canvas measures 64 x 82.5 cm. Ramón Rodriguez Barcaza (1827-1885) The Spanish artist Ramón Rodriguez Barcaza started his artistic training at the art school of his home town Cádiz, which was followed by his attendance to the Academy in Madrid. Thanks to a scholarship, he was able to go to Paris in 1849, where he joined the workshop of the well-known artist Léon Cogniet (1794-1880). He established as a historical and genre painter und was later appointed professor of the Royal Academy of Arts. His works have been honored many times, including the gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867. Examples of his works can be found at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
