Charles Robert Ashbee for the Guild of Handicraft, an Arts and Crafts silver beaker vase, London 1896, the planished conical body on a splayed foot, reticulated and repousse embossed with a band of seeding poppy or tulip flowers on coiled foliate fronds, 19cm high, 10.29ozt Note: a photograph of this or a near identical vase appears in the Guild of Handicraft design book, titled Early Work, currently in possession of the Guild at Chipping Campden. Although John Pearson left the guild in 1892, the foot is reminiscent of his style of repousse work, perhaps by one of his pupils, to the Ashbee design. This is a relatively early example of Ashbee's work while still in London and bears his personal CRA hallmark

Also called "Silver Lady" or "Flying Lady", the sculpture was designed by sculptor CHARLES ROBERT (ROBINSON) SYKES; it was his most famous work. Silver-colored modern metal cast with dark accents on round marble pedestal. Blacker House, Pasadena, California, circa 1914, with ebony accents and original upholstery fabric; Provenance: purchased at a lawn sale held at the Blacker House in the early 1950s; by descent to an Arcadia, California estate; Note: a couch from the same suite sold Christie's--New York: June 7, 2000 [Lot 222]; Condition: overall wear to finish, including fading and rubbed wear along edges at to corners. Scattered scratches and small nicks. Separation to stretcher at rear of right side, with a loss to timber adjacent to mortise hole. Two cracks to elbow brace at front of right side without associated losses to timber. Minor loss to finish on front center detail and on arm angles. A few small white marks to rear seat rail. Frame is structurally sound. Upholstery appears to be original. Dirt accumulation, fading and discoloration to fabric. Cat scratches to fabric on rear. Seat needs to be completely restructured; springs are exposed and seat is sagging. 80 inches wide; 24 inches deep; 30 1/2 inches high
