Oil on hardboard Argentina, 1939 Carlos Pablo Ripamonte (1874-1968) - Argentine painter and writer Signed, dated and with dedication 'A mi amigo M. Garcia Hernandez / Afectuosamente / C. P. Ripamonte 1939' upper left Inscribed in black marker by an unknown hand on the verso Works by the artist fetch over 14,000 euros at international auctions Dimensions, framed: 42 x 33 cm Very good condition This portrait by Carlos Pablo Ripamonte was created in 1939 and shows the portrait of a seated Gaucho in an indistinct environment. The figure is rendered with broad rough brushwork so that its silhouette barely contrasts with the background. The impasto paint application gives the works an appealing haptic quality and the green-brown color scheme lets the composition appear very harmonious. The painting is in very good condition. It is signed, dated and bears a dedication 'A mi amigo M. Garcia Hernandez / Afectuosamente / C. P. Ripamonte 1939' upper left as well as being inscribed in black marker by an unknown hand on the verso. The frame shows minor wear. The framed work measures 42 x 33 cm, the image size is 34 x 26 cm. Carlos Pablo Ripamonte (1874-1968) Carlos Pablo Ripamonte studied at the Sociedad estímulo de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires from 1892 to 1896. Between 1900 and 1904 he continued his studies in Europe. From 1909 onwards he held professorships at the Academia de Bellas Artes Nactionale and the Escola de Artes de la Nación Decorativo in Buenos Aires. The Argentine landscape and the folklore of the country were the primary sources of his oeuvre. (tfa) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
