This poster shows a gas attendant proudly asserting that he only sells gasoline to customers who have the correct paperwork. While we were able to attribute this poster to Walter Richards, we were unfortunately unable to learn much about his life or career outside of this design. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

          Est: $100 - $200

Artist: Walter Richards Artist Dates: 1907-2006 Signed Within Plate: Yes Date of Work: 1942 Description: Nothing was thrown away during the War Years. Recycled products were gathered and waste products that seemed unimportant like grease and fat were collected for binding explosives. Families were already reusing oil and waste fats as much as possible at home and when it was no longer possible to reuse them, that’s when they were urged to take them to their butcher or meat dealer. Lida Orzeck came across more than 750 vintage war posters from World War I and World War II in her family’s home basement that her father, David Orzeck, a Brooklyn doctor, had meticulously collected. Discovered in 1970, the posters â€" of which few pristine prints remain with the exception of the National Archives and the Library of Congress â€" were in mint condition, neatly catalogued and folded in brown wrapping paper from grocery stores. Size: 31"L x 42"H Weight: <1 pound Provenance: Dr. David Orzeck Condition: Poster has original fold marks and has not been exposed to sunlight, thus preserving the vibrant colors. Recently linen backed. Artist Biography: American Illustrator, Commercial Artist during the Golden Age for Classic Illustration Meta: Poster, WWI, WWII, Military, Militaria, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Propaganda.
