      ENRIC CRISTÒFOR RICART I NIN (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1893-1960). "Still life".1916. Oil and watercolor on vejurado paper. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Work made in the workshop he shared with Joan Miró in 1916-1917. Measurements: 45 x 60,5 cm; 48,5 x 64 cm (frame). Painter, engraver, one of the maximum exponents of the Catalan Noucentisme, although he also dabbled in other avant-garde movements, which can be appreciated in this still life of his first period, close to the fauve language. Trained at the Galí Art School, where he coincided with Joan Miró, with whom he shared a studio in Barcelona. Co-founder of the Agrupación Courbet, editor of the magazine Themis and member of the so-called School of Vilanova. At the age of eleven he attended the Francisco de Asís Galí Art School, where he coincided with Joan Miró, with whom he would later share a studio on Calle Bajo de San Pedro. He completed his training at the Escuela de Bellos Oficios. In 1914 he made his first trip to Florence, where he met his friend Rafael Sala. In this city he saw for the first time an engraved boxwood plate. This discovery will lead him to self-learning in the technique of engraving, a technique that he will never abandon and of which he will become a true scholar and his best known artistic side. He exhibited individually for the first time in the Dalmau Galleries and, shortly after, together with Rafael Sala and Josep Francesc Ràfols. This collaboration was the reason why some critics of the time spoke of the Vilanova School. The three artists also coincided in the editorial staff of the avant-garde magazine Themis. He was the founder of the Courbet Group with other publications with texts and/or illustrations. Enric C. Ricart is the most prominent representative of the Catalan woodcut renaissance.
