  • FÉLIX REVELLO DE TORO (Málaga, 1926) Untitled. Oil/canvas. Signed and dedicated in the upper right corner. "To Cherri my affection".
    Feb. 14, 2023

FÉLIX REVELLO DE TORO (Málaga, 1926) Untitled. Oil/canvas. Signed and dedicated in the upper right corner. "To Cherri my affection".

    Est: €4,500 - €5,000

FÉLIX REVELLO DE TORO (Málaga, 1926) Untitled. Oil/canvas. Signed and dedicated in the upper right corner. "To Cherri my affection". Size: 116 x 81 cm; 128 x 93,5 cm (frame). In this work we can contemplate the unmistakable style of this artist who mastered the portrait genre without equal, creating sublime atmospheres even when representing everyday spaces or neutral backgrounds where common objects such as mirrors, chairs or screens appear, as is the case of the work we present here. His long, forceful and sure brushstroke shows an absolute mastery of the technique, as well as the use of vibrant and contrasted colours that give all the prominence to the central figure to which our gaze is inevitably directed. Félix Revello de Toro was born in Málaga into a family with strong artistic influences, his father being a renowned drawing teacher, Jose María Revello Cazar, from whom he inherited his taste and gift for technique. He began to stand out in the artistic field at an early age; his first exhibition took place in 1938, at the age of 16 he received his first professional commission from a local brotherhood and the following year he was awarded a scholarship to continue his training in Madrid at the Real Academia de San Fernando. In 1951 he was awarded the Carmen del Río scholarship, which enabled him to continue his training in Rome. It was from this point onwards that his work began to be recognised and he was called upon to paint official portraits, such as the gallery of mayors at Malaga City Hall in 1970 and the first official portrait of the Prince of Asturias. In 2010 a museum dedicated to him was opened in the centre of Malaga, with 117 works on loan from the painter.

  • FELIX REVELLO DEL TORO (Malaga, 1926). "Female portrait", 1970. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and dedicated in the lower left corner.
    Feb. 14, 2023

FELIX REVELLO DEL TORO (Malaga, 1926). "Female portrait", 1970. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and dedicated in the lower left corner.

    Est: €2,000 - €2,200

FELIX REVELLO DEL TORO (Malaga, 1926). "Female portrait", 1970. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and dedicated in the lower left corner. Measurements: 73 x 50 cm. Revello de Toro was fond of painting already as a child, receiving his first artistic training with father Oliver, in the Jesuit school of El Palo. Later he extended his training at the School of Fine Arts in Malaga, where he was taught by Álvarez Dumond, Burgos Oms, Murillo Carreras and Bermúdez Gil. He made his individual debut when he was only twelve years old, and after completing his studies he obtained a scholarship to further his studies in Madrid. He studied at the San Fernando Academy for five years, at the end of which he was awarded the Extraordinary Fine Arts Prize and the Carmen del Río scholarship, which enabled him to study in Rome in 1951. On his return, his work began to be admired as a result of his personal exhibitions in 1953 at the Sala Macarrón and the Casino in Madrid. That same year he married and won the competitive examination to become a Fine Arts teacher in Barcelona, specifically at the La Lonja School. Years later, in 1973, he left teaching in order to devote himself fully to his painting, especially to his work as a portraitist. He painted magnificent portraits of personalities from the world of politics, culture, sport, etc., giving rise to an extensive production which is now widely recognised. His portraits of the kings of Spain stand out in this field. In 1987 he was made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo, and in 2001 he was made a favourite son of the province of Malaga. He also holds the Gold Medal of Malaga and the Medal of Honour of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville. In 2002 he was awarded the Medal of Andalusia. He is currently represented in the Museum that bears his name in Malaga, as well as in other public and private collections.
