            Est: €2,500 - €3,000

BALDOMERO ROMERO RESSENDI (Seville, 1922 - Madrid, 1977). "Pietà". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Size: 80,5 x 65 cm; 99 x 83,5 cm (frame). Romero Ressendi trained at the School of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría, in Seville, where he revealed an exceptional talent that was not understood by his teachers, who in any case noticed in his art an extravagant feeling. From the outset, Ressendi developed an expressionist language of Baroque heritage, marked by great technical mastery and an extraordinary facility for composing his scenes and defining the physiognomies of the figures in them, who always display perfectly defined and nuanced gestures and moods. Thus, from his earliest works, he configured a universe of forms and concepts charged with violence, threatening atmospheres deriving from gaunt chromatisms and profoundly pathetic dullness. His different expressive registers oscillate from the melancholic and tragic feeling of life to a scatological and deformed vision of human beings, both physically and spiritually. Ressendi first made his works known in Seville in 1946. From that time onwards a certain reputation grew up around him as a cursed and scandalous painter, and his works were considered by some sections of society to be obscene and disrespectful of morals, as the ecclesiastical authorities pointed out at the time. Fortunately, he was not lacking in protectors and friends who supported his art, especially the protection of high-ranking military officials, who even provided him with major mural projects such as those in the basilica of the Valley of the Fallen. Throughout his long career he worked on a wide range of subjects, including fantastic scenes, genre scenes, still lifes, portraits, bullfighting, religious, gypsy and circus themes. In 2007, the Museum of Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville) devoted an anthological exhibition to him. Ressendi's work is mainly in private collections, such as those of the Banco Exterior in Madrid and Seville.

Goyaesque scene captured with a loose brushstroke, of impressionist tradition. The impasto of the colour, and the artist's line invite us to think that it is a work by Baldomero Romero Ressendi. Romero Ressendi trained at the Santa Isabel de Hungría School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he revealed an exceptional talent that was not understood by his teachers, who in any case noticed an extravagant feeling in his art. Scene with the figure of a mother, placed in the centre of the composition, who is being rebuked by two children. The image is painted with a loose brushstroke, in the Impressionist tradition. The colour impasto and the artist's brushstrokes suggest that this is a work by Baldomero Romero Ressendi. From the outset, Ressendi developed an expressionist language with a Baroque heritage, marked by great technical mastery and an extraordinary facility for composing his scenes and defining the physiognomies of the figures in them, who always display perfectly defined and nuanced gestures and moods. Thus, from his earliest works, he configured a universe of forms and concepts charged with violence, threatening atmospheres deriving from gaunt and muted chromatisms that are profoundly pathetic.

            Est: €2,000 - €2,500

BALDOMERO ROMERO RESSENDI (Seville, 1922 - Madrid, 1977). "Maternity". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Size: 29 x 36 cm; 44,5 x 51,5 cm (frame). Romero Ressendi trained at the Santa Isabel de Hungría School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he revealed an exceptional talent that was not understood by his teachers, who in any case noticed an extravagant feeling in his art. From the outset, Ressendi developed an expressionist language with a Baroque heritage, marked by great technical mastery and an extraordinary facility for composing his scenes and defining the physiognomies of the figures in them, who always display perfectly defined and nuanced gestures and moods.
