A solitary gentleman, the Artist's father, Ilya Yefimovich Repin walking along the water's edge at the end of twilight.The painting is signed lower right and in pencil on the back. In original period wood frame. In frame measures 14x15x1. 1 pd 5 oz. Notation from estate reads,the suburbs of Saint Petersburg, 1914. Signature and Painting confirmed by Tatiana Petrovna Borodina, Chief of the Department, Museum Estate of I.Ye. Repin Penates, The Russian Academy of Fine Arts Museum, St. Petersburg via email. PROVENANCE: The estate of a Litchfield Connecticut Antique and Fine Art Dealer (personal collection). Yuri Ilya Repin was the son of most renowned Russian artist of the 19th century, lya Yefimovich Repin. Yuri studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg. From 1908 to 1939 Yuri Repin lived in Kuokkala beside his father on the estate Penates, located 19 miles northwest of St. Petersburg. Kuokkala was renamed Repino in 1948, after its most famous inhabitant, Ilya Repin. The Penates became an important artistic and literary gathering place in the early 20th century.
