      GEORGE MARCEL RENARD (France, 1893- 1974). "La soie". Enameled and glazed earthenware. Presents seals on the base. Signed on the back. Measurements: 49 x 21 x 12 cm. Marcel Renard, was a French sculptor and medalist. He was the son of the sculptor Léopold Renard (1868-1945), son of the sculptor Charles Renard (1833-1910). Marcel Renard first studied with his father, Léopold Renard. He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, in the workshops of Aubert and Jean Ploquin, before being admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the workshops of Rost and Alfred Boucher. He won the second Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving and a gold medal at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs. Marcel Renard moved to Paris in 1920 and worked with Michel Roux-Spitz on his Lyon projects, such as the Villa Weitz (1923), the Berrier et Millet restaurant (1924-1928, with Alfred Janniot, destroyed), the Vetter tomb in the Croix-Rousse cemetery in Lyon (1924)2 and the ornamentation of the new facade of the Galeries Lafayette in Lyon, in the former Grands magasins des Cordeliers. His works can be seen at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille (Laporte-Pellegrin donation), the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon2, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London3, the Design Museum Gent in Ghent and the Dansmuseet (en) in Stockholm.
