In its consistent abstraction, in its coherent use of colour and form, it is characterised by an unmistakable artistic signature.In addition to painting, he also uses photography and moving image. His approach involves pouring diluted paint onto the ground and applying several layers in different directions. Perspective and spatial representation are overcome to explore new spatial qualities. Reinhold compares his structure to photographic films or musical scores. The viewing process becomes part of the shaping image.

The fluidity of paint offers a wealth of decisions, but only for a brief moment. Reinhold was fascinated by that intermediate sphere, when compositions result from calculation and chance. The work offered here is an impressive example of Reinhold’s poetic approach and demonstrates the procedural principles of painting. The work is signed and dated on verso ‘R […] Jan. 88’. It is in very good condition and only shows faint marks along the edges. The size of the stretcher is 90 x 110 cm. Thomas Reinhold (b. 1953) Thomas Reinhold was born in Vienna. Between 1974 and 1978, he studied under Herbert Tasquil at the local Universität für angewandte Kunst. In the late 1970s Reinhold and his companions Erwin Bohatsch, Siegfried Anzinger, Alfred Klinken and Hubert Schmalix founded the ‘Neuen Wilden’, a leading group of avant-garde artists. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Austria and abroad. Examples of his artistic output are included in public collections such as the Albertina and the Galerie Belvedere in Vienna, the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg and the Lentos Kunstmuseum in Linz. In 2010 the artist spent three months in Shanghai and was awarded with the ‘Preis der Stadt Wien’ in the following year. Thomas Reinhold lives and works in Vienna.
