    oil on canvas, signed and dated on the reverse 78 3/4 x 59 in., 200 x 150 cm Provenance: Jonathan Viner Gallery, London. Artex was the home decorating craze of the 1970s in the UK. A hand-held plastic comb was used to apply a liquid plaster to ceilings creating swirling textured patterns, subsequently found to be almost impossible to remove. In this series of paintings, Dan Rees uses the same hand-held comb to create similarly textured patterns in acrylics on canvas. This stunning effect has the bi-product of smoothing out the edges of his colour fields thereby creating a harmonious, seamless abstract composition.
