David Reed (American, b.1946) Foregrounding the process of his works, David Reed (American, b.1946) produces surreal layered effects with gestural brushstrokes. Reed acknowledges the incidental semblance of his paintings to mechanized and digital imagery, despite his technique arising originally from the desire for technological disengagement. Later works fuse Warhol’s application of brilliant color with the motion of Abstract Expressionism. Reed’s paintings are counted in the collections of the Guggenheim, New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, among many others.
