In the foreground of the depiction, the viewer sees beasts of burden and riders, including camels and horses. Some of them are just crossing the shallow bank. The silhouette of Ashkelon can then be seen in the background. From the Middle Bronze Age to the Middle Ages, Ashkelon was an important trading town and a major fortified place on the traffic routes between Egypt and Palestine.
