Titled and dated 1973, on the backside. Oscar Rabin is known for Expressionist, political themed landscape and still life paintings. Oskar Yakovlevich Rabin was a Soviet and French nonconformist artist, one of the founders of the Lianozovo art group. He was subject to serious criticism, as he was one of the brightest representatives of the Russian avant garde. He was awarded the Order of the Russian Academy of Arts For Service to Art. Russian Fine Art, Avant Garde Paintings, Wall Art, and Collectibles. One of a kind artwork.

Il débute sa formation à l'Académie des Arts de Riga en 1948 et se perfectionne à l'Institut Vassili Sourikov à Moscou d'où il est expulsé pour formalisme. Véritable figure de proue des artistes engagés pour la liberté d’expression, Oscar Rabin appartient au grand mouvement non-conformiste des années 1960/1970. Grand défenseur de l’art non officiel, il organise en 1974 la célèbre exposition « bulldozer » en plein air à Moscou. Cette tentative d’exposition d’œuvres sans censure est balayée par les autorités et les œuvres sont confisquées. Déchu de sa citoyenneté par décret du Soviet Suprême, il part à Paris, où il prend la nationalité française. En 1990, la Pérestroïka rétablira son droit à la citoyenneté russe. Oscar Rabine fréquente les écoles d’art soviétiques et le très classique Institut Sourikov de Moscou, d’où il est exclu en 1949 à cause de son goût pour l’abstraction. Comme beaucoup d’artistes, Rabine abandonne l’art pendant la période stalinienne et ne se consacre à la peinture qu’à partir de 1958, date à laquelle il crée le Groupe de Lianosovo réunissant des artistes « underground ». Véritable chef de file des artistes engagés pour la liberté d’expression, il organise à Moscou en 1974, la célèbre exposition d’art non-conformiste en plein air qui fut détruite par les bulldozers car elle n’avait pas été soumise à la censure des autorités. Expulsé, il se réfugie en France, peint Paris, la Provence et la Corse. Son art combine son goût et sa culture slave de naissance avec l’art occidental qu’il adorait, ici, une construction à la fois cubiste associée à une image traditionnelle de la Nativité.
