In 2007 Walid Raad initiated the art project Scratching on Things I could Disavow, which focuses on the history of art in the ‘Arab World’, which faces a great change since fast peace developments in cities like Abu-Dhabi, Beirut, Cairo, Doha, Istanbul and Sharjah lead to a new infrastructure for the visual arts. Raad was particularly fascinated by the emergence of new art museums, galleries, schools and cultural foundations in those cities. Condition: The work is in a very good condition, only the sheet is minimally corrugated. The sheet-sized image dimensions measure 53.9 x 73 cm. Walid Raad (b. 1967) The artist was born in Chbanieh in Lebanon in 1967 and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He continued his studies at the University of Rochester and received both a Master and Ph.D in Cultural and Visual Studies in 1993 respectively 1996. His work so far includes photography, video art, text and performance, and focuses particularly on the contemporary history of his native country. In 2012 he co-founded the Akademie der Künste der Welt in Cologne. Raad currently lives in New York, where he teaches at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Raad has already been awarded several prizes, e.g. in 2001 with the Hasselblad Award, in 2007 with the German Börse Photography Prize and in 2002 with the Vidarte 2002 Festival prize. His works have been shown in several exhibitions, such as at the Louvre in Paris in 2013 or at the documenta in Kassel in 2012.
