b. 1966 -

Artist Lorenzo Quinn was born in Rome in 1966 and is the son of actor and artist Anthony Quinn. A contemporary artist and sculptor, Lorenzo Quinn is best-known for recreations of human hands and especially for his large installations in Venice, Barcelona, and other cities worldwide. He studied painting at the American Academy of Fine Arts in New York, but ultimately decided to pursue sculpture as his primary medium. Several cities and organizations have commissioned artist Lorenzo Quinn to create installations, including the Vatican, which assigned him to sculpt St. Anthony for the Basilica del Santo. Lorenzo Quinn's originals have been exhibited internationally and are included in many private collections. You can find other unique sculptures for sale online or at auction at Invaluable.

LORENZO QUINN (Rome, 1966). "The first love", 2001. Bronze plated. Exemplary 711/999 US. Certificate of authenticity enclosed. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 31 x 32 x 15 cm. Lorenzo Quinn's work reflects the search for a united world, full of emotions and often forgotten values. The artist himself explains: "I am often asked where I get my inspiration and how long it takes me to make a sculpture. My answer is usually that my inspiration comes from everyday life, from something I read, from conversations with people, from the different stages of family life. Essentially, anything that can move me. As for time, whether it took me a long time or a short time to create a sculpture, my answer is always the same: as long as my own life. This means that a sculpture is part of myself and my way of thinking, which is based on my past experiences. Sometimes, I know what I want to say, but it can take me years to find a way to express it to the world." The son of actor Anthony Quinn, the sculptor grew up in the United States and Italy, and it was in Italy that he learned to appreciate art. At the age of twenty-one, he earned the respect of New York's artistic society by creating a work for the United Nations, a work that gave him the impetus to star in the much-lauded Absolut Vodka advertising campaign, for which the world's most acclaimed artists are selected. Shortly thereafter, he received an important commission from the Vatican, which commissioned him to create a sculpture of the saint on the occasion of the 8th Centenary of the Death of St. Anthony. Quinn has held exhibitions on five continents, and his work is present at major art fairs around the world. He has carried out important commissions for institutions and companies: Euroforum Escorial; Ilustre Colegio Oficias de Médicos de Madrid, Trofeo de Mallorca Open ATP Tennis Tour, Cervezas San Miguel, among others. His current project "El Globo de la Vida" is truly a dream come true and his most important work to date. He has also created several public works in cities such as London, Birmingham and Sant Climent de Llobregat (Barcelona). In November 2005, two monuments by his hand were inaugurated in the sports complex that hosted the 2006 Asian Olympic Games in Doha (Qatar).

Without them we would float in perdition". Lorenzo Quinn's work reflects the search for a united world, full of emotions and often forgotten values. The artist himself explains, "I am often asked where I get my inspiration and how long it takes to make a sculpture. For Quinn "It is extremely important that there is a fair balance in all aspects of life. That is something that nature has tried to show us throughout time. All opposites come together at their extremes. You cannot fully enjoy receiving if you have never given, simply because you would not value what you have received, since you only value what is difficult to obtain." Lorenzo Quinn's work reflects the search for a united world, full of emotions and often forgotten values. Quinn himself explains "I think one of the most wonderful attributes of human beings is their imagination. Everything we imagine is a combination of something we have already seen, but the way we interpret these images is what distinguishes us as individuals. I love going to sleep at night knowing that I can dream of anything I want, because anything is possible in dreams, anything, even that forbidden kiss. I imagine the perfect kiss, an eternal kiss. One that can count down the years, like the rings on a tree trunk." Lorenzo Quinn's work reflects the search for a united world, full of emotions and often forgotten values. Est: €2,000 - €2,500

LORENZO QUINN (Rome, 1966). "The creation". Bronze plated. Exemplary 084/495 CE. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 30 x 17 x 17 cm. In relation to this sculpture Quinn states "I believe in God, but above all I believe that the most important thing is to have a good conscience. Man was created to be perfect, being imperfect. It has always amazed me to see how ancient cultures, the Egyptians, for example, were able to create forms as perfect as the pyramids and how nature itself has created forms as simple as that of an egg. All this teaches me that man and nature could be in perfect symbiosis. We do not constitute the top level of creation, but rather we are part of a wonderful homogeneous chain, the chain of life. Artists, such as Michelangelo and Salvador Dali, represented very well the creation of the perfect being and its proximity to the Divinity. This sculpture is a clear homage to these two great artists, but above all to Dalí, to whom I owe my initiation into the world of art and in memory of his birth a century ago." Lorenzo Quinn's work reflects the search for a united world, full of emotions and values often forgotten. The artist himself explains, "I am often asked where I get my inspiration and how long it takes me to make a sculpture. ▲ Lorenzo Quinn (Italian, b.1966), ‘Four Loves’, bronze, wood, stainless steel, red travertine and steel, numbered '6/8', 127cm high 'Four Loves’ was inspired when Quinn was reading C S Lewis’s ‘Four Loves’. He explains: ‘I decided to present the Loves as the foundation stones on which the weight of the World should be supported. The first stone, representing Faith, Affection and Love (Agape), is made out of polished bronze so as to look pure. The second stone symbolises passionate love (Eros), for which I have used red stone, strong yet fragile on its own. The third is Friendship (Philia), and I have created this in polished stainless steel, because you are reflected in your friends. Finally, the fourth represents family love (Storge), and I have made this one out of wood, a warm material, because it is live, organic and grows. On top of these stones you build your world, which is a complex puzzle that has to be assembled. And finally, when you put this all together, you build your relationship, and if you then manage to keep in perfect balance, you achieve the ultimate goal of having a long-lasting relationship which is magical and more precious than gold.’
