    Est: €1,800 - €2,000

MATÍAS QUETGLAS BENEDET (Ciutadella, Menorca, 1946). "She who paints on the floor", 2005. Acrylic on wood. Signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner. Sizes: 65 x 54 cm; 69 x 58 cm (frame). In this work the artist renews a traditional theme in the history of art, that of "the painter and the model". Quetglas fuses the two figures into a single nude body with its back to the viewer in a forced foreshortening. The scene, which is based on a figurative conception, slightly abandons the rigour of form to give greater prominence to colour, quality and the voluptuousness of volume, as is usual in the artist's painting. Matías Quetglas held his first exhibition in his native town when he was only eighteen years old, and shortly afterwards he went to Madrid to study at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where his teacher was Antonio López. Shortly before finishing his studies he was hired by the Juana Mordó gallery in the same city, with which he collaborated for fifteen years, and since then he has shown his work in Spain, France, Sweden, Germany and Italy.
