MARK PUAUTJIMI Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Mark Virgil Puautjimi was born on Bathurst Island, Northern Territory in 1964. His Tiwi name is Mulapmayua, and he belongs to the Jilaringni (Brolga) skin group. From 1983 to 1988 Puautjimi was an apprentice and technician at the Tiwi Design pottery studio, working with artists such as Eddie Puruntatameri, John Bosco Tipiloura and John Patrick Kelantumama. In 1999 he rejoined the studio as a trainee manager.

He has been exhibiting since 1999. His work has been included in such major group exhibitions as Yikwani: Contemporary Tiwi Ceramics, National Gallery of Victoria and touring (2002–03), the 16th National Aboriginal Art Award (1999), and the 18th and 19th Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Darwin (2001 and 2002). Mark Virgil Puautjimi lives in Nguiu on Bathurst Island.
