Natalie Puantulura was taught to paint by her grandfather, Declan Apuatimi (Senior), who was the late husband of renowned Tiwi artist Jean Baptiste Apuatimi. As Jean Baptiste Apuatimis’ grandaughter, Natalie Puantulura was also taught about Tiwi culture and painting by her late grandmother. Natalie Puantulura painted with Tiwi Design art centre on Bathurst Island up until 2004, after which she and her partner, Edward Malati Yunupingu, moved to Pirlangimpi on Melville Island and began working with Munupi Arts and Crafts.

Natalie Puantulura’s explorations of Tiwi pattern and design has made her a sought after Tiwi artist.Natalie has exhibited in many leading galleries throughout Australia since 2002 and held her first solo exhibition in Tasmania in 2012. She also participated in the Darwin Festival 'Lighthouse' Wall Mural with five other Tiwi Artists. She was a finalist in the prestigious 20thTelstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in the Works on Paper Category.
