Ihre Arbeiten, die spielerisch-naiv, grell-poppig und gleichzeitig betont provokant Themen wie Pietismus, Religion, Sexualität und Diskriminierung aufgreifen, werden in vielerlei künstlerischer Techniken umgesetzt, bevorzugt auch in Mischformen. Gilbert & George (Gilbert Prousch, 1943 Thurn, George Passmore, 1942 Plymouth) (F) 'Ginkgo Winkgo', offset lithograph in colours on paper, frame inner dimensions 57 cm x 84 cm, signed, dated 2005, numbered 14/50 The artist duo Gilbert & George, who first met in 1967 and have since pursued the joint art project 'Living Sculptures', present themselves here in photographically alienated self-portraits with leaves of the ginkgo tree and the rhyming neologism "Winkgo". Both hands shoved fearfully into their mouths, both gentlemen in their distinguished suits look at the viewer with wide-open eyes, as if evoking horror. With this provocative work, Gilbert & George were represented at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005.
