Drawing, pen and ink, grey wash, 7,2x20,1 cm., "Workum" below image. - Sl. browned; (dust)soiled; w. a few sm. stains. = Hendrik Spilman created an etching after this drawing and used it in Het verheerlykt Nederland of kabinet van hedendaagsche gezigten van steden, dorpen (1750). This was combined with a view of the watergate of Woudrichem after a drawing in a very similar style, attributed to Paulus van Liender by RKD (formerly in the collection of gallery Gebr. Douwes, 1963). The etchings are signed "C.P. ad viv.del", so the attribution to van Liender is very doubtful.

A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE ‘PARROT ON A PERCH’ LIDDED VASES THE DESIGN ATTRIBUTED TO CORNELIS PRONK (1691-1759) Possibly China, Qing Dynasty, 19th to 20th century A pair of baluster porcelain vases, probably part of a five-piece garniture, adorned in the famille rose palette with a parrot on a perch suspended from a melon-form ornament, the bird chained to the stoop and with colourful plumage, the right talon grasping a cherry sprig, with a blue border at the flared mouth and foot. H: 35 cm Notes: 1. This design is often attributed to Cornelis Pronk but the direct evidence is still lacking. However, the 'parrot' pattern can also be found on Makkum earthenware as well as Meissen porcelain from the 18th century. The present examples were probably part of a five-piece garniture, such as the set illustrated in William R. Sargent, Treasures of Chinese Export Ceramics from the Peabody Essex Museum, Massachusetts, 2012, p. 248, no. 123. Also compare with a related pair of beaker vases offered at Bonham's London, United Kingdom, 2018/11/06, lot 622, priced at GBP3.000-5.000. 2. In the Shan Hai Jing (山海经) or Classic of the Mountains and Seas from the period of the western Han (202 BC-220 AD), the yingmu (parrot) is described thus: ‘The parrot is a happy bird... Inside a cage, happy on its own, A secluded branch becomes its throne.’
