Pritchard' (lower left), 34.8 x 45.3 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  Pritchard worked principally as a marine artist, depicting boats out at sea or by the coast. The present work is an interesting development on this theme, with the vessels instead placed at the edge of an urban street which lines the canal of possibly a Belgian town. Here, the boats appear almost more part of the city than the buildings themselves, with the towering masts dwarfing the church tower beyond, and the closely packed sails creating a palpable sense of movement and bustle.

E PRITCHARD SAILBOAT PAINTING 21.5 BY 27.5 INCHES

Original oil on board painting by Edward Pritchard, dated 1935. The painting uses earth tones in depicting a sailboat with a small crew in the middle on an ocean. The work has a small hole on the sail of the boat, a raised area on the top center of the board, the right side has spray stains. Otherwise the work is in good condition. The frame measures 21.5 by 27.5 inches, the painting measures 18 by 24 inches. This lot has a reserve.
