Drawing depicts an 18th century urban street scene set in Paris, France after the story by Honore de Balzac (French, 1799-1850) depicting a trio of figures standing in the doorway of a parfumerie, a lady, a gentleman, and a cleric, the clergyman in a posture of blessing as a parade of armed troops process toward them with a condemned prisoner riding in a tall cart within their midst, possibly King Louis XVI who was executed by the state on July 21st, 1791.Framed approximately 22.5" x 18.5", sheet size approximately 17.375" x 13.125".
