Timothy Standring dates the present work to 1626-1627. He believes that this composition of Satyr Carrying a Nymph on his Back, with Putti and a Faun in an Arcadian Landscape, is the prime version and, as such, it is a significant addition to the early oeuvre of Nicolas Poussin. A later treatment of the subject from 1629 is conserved in the Gemäldegalerie, Alte Meister, Kassel (inv. no. GK 459). The British Museum, London, holds what appears to be a preparatory drawing for the present work, dated to circa 1626 (inv. no. 1895,0915, 929). Strandring, in comparing the British Museum drawing and the present work to the Kassel composition, notes that the drawing depicts water in the foreground and a forked tree trunk bisecting the figural group of nymph, satyr and putti, which are also features in the present composition, but which are ommitted from the later Kassel version. The provenance of the present picture is supported by an engraving by Philippe Joseph Tassaert from Bacchanalians: from the Original Picture Painted by Nic.s Poussin In the Collection of John Blackwood Esq, published on 10 July 1769 by J.Boydell, engraver in Cheapside, London, conserved in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, (inv. no RP-P-OB-33.852). Nicolas Poussin (UK: /ˈpuːsæ̃/, US: /puːˈsæ̃/,[1][2] French: [nikɔla pusɛ̃]; June 1594 – 19 November 1665) was a French painter who was a leading painter of the classical French Baroque style, although he spent most of his working life in Rome. Most of his works were on religious and mythological subjects painted for a small group of Italian and French collectors. He returned to Paris for a brief period to serve as First Painter to the King under Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, but soon returned to Rome and resumed his more traditional themes. In his later years he gave growing prominence to the landscape in his paintings. His work is characterized by clarity, logic, and order, and favors line over color. Until the 20th century he remained a major inspiration for such classically-oriented artists as Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Paul Cézanne.

Il dipinto, di alta qualità, è in relazione con il celebre dipinto di Poussin raffigurante la "Nourriture de Bacchus" oggi al Louvre. Il quadro originale approdò nelle collezioni reali francesi verso il 1670. Poussin dipinse numerosi quadri che vanno sotto la casella dei "Baccanali" anche se rappresentano, come in questo caso, scene mitologiche più complesse. TRIUMPH DER FLORA Öl auf Leinwand. 167 x 249,5 cm. In ornamental verziertem breitem Profilrahmen. Poussin schuf das Gemälde, an welches das vorliegende Werk angelehnt ist, im Jahre 1627. Es trägt den Titel „Le Triomphe de Flore“, misst 165 x 241 cm und wird im Louvre in Paris unter der Inv.Nr. 7298 verwahrt. Zunächst befand es sich in der Sammlung des späteren Kardinals Luigi Alessandro Omodei (1608-1685) und wurde 1685 von dort für Louis XIV erworben. Poussin ließ sich hier von verschiedenen Textquellen inspirieren: so berichten verschiedene Passagen aus Ovids Metamorphosen von Verwandlungen in Blumen und Blüten (Bücher III, IV, X und XIII) aber auch in seinen Fasti sind solche Metamorphosen zu finden (Buch V, V. 223-228). Dargestellt wird also in einer leicht hügeligen Landschaft ein vergoldeter Triumphwagen mit erhöht sitzender, allegorischer, weiblicher Gestalt, die anhand ihrer Attribute unschwer als Flora zu erkennen ist, umspielt von sie begleitenden Figuren, wobei auch der geharnischte Mars ihr Blumen reicht. Oil painting on panel Certification by Prof. Francesco Gallo, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Very lively composition in which Neptune appears on a rock armed with a trident next to Amphitrite, his wife. The other marine divinities unfold under her watchful jurisdiction: the Nereid nymphs who bathe in the springs, the old God of the rivers who makes the waters flow from an amphora, the maidservants and other characters. It is a work of very worthy formal elegance of the French school, an expression of the refinement of the Rocaille world. The freshness and dynamic impact of the composition are particularly striking, highlighted in the pose of the characters.

Originaltitel Szenische Darstellung nach dem Neuen Testament und Apokryphen. Im Bildzentrum steht Johannes am Jordan-Ufer, der zwei vor ihm kniende Männer tauft, flankiert von Frauen mit ihren Kindern sowie weiteren, sich ebenfalls zur Taufe bereit machenden bzw. skeptischen Männern und einem Reiter auf einem Schimmel. Die Komposition basiert auf dem 1635-1637 entstandenen, bekannten Gemälde Poussins, das 1693 in die Sammlung König Ludwig IV. von Frankreich gelangte und sich heute im Louvre befindet, gibt dieses jedoch in seitenverkehrter Weise wieder. Zu den vergleichbaren Repliken aus der Barock-Epoche gehört ein vom RKD in Den Haag dokumentiertes, ebenfalls seitenverkehrtes Gemälde, das Jan Josef Horemans d. Ä. (1682 - 1759) zugeschrieben wird. BACCHANAL Öl auf Leinwand. 96 x 107 cm. Unter weiß-blauem Himmel eine fröhliche Gesellschaft von teils leicht bekleideten Männern und Frauen beim Feiern mit Wein, der aus dem Krug direkt, wie auf der linken Bildseite von einem halb knienden, fast nackten Mann, getrunken wird, oder aus Schalen, wie bei den beiden am Boden liegenden Frauen in weißen Blusen in blauem, beziehungsweise in rotem Gewand. Ein Mann in weißer Kleidung hält einen Glaskrug hoch und begutachtet den darin enthaltenen Rotwein. Niemand scheint sich auch an dem kleinen Kind zu stören, dass mit hochgezogenem Hemdchen zwischen den Liegenden uriniert. Rechts ein tanzendes Paar: sie in einem hellblauen Gewand, er in Rückenansicht mit einem altrosafarbenen Gewand mit reichem Faltenwurf. Im Vordergrund rechts eine junge, nur mit einem weißen Laken umhüllte, sich am Boden räkelnde Schönheit. Es ist Ariadne, in die sich der Weingott Bacchus unsterblich verliebt und die er zu seiner Braut erkoren hatte. Diese Schönheit wird sehr häufig mit unterschiedlicher Deutung auf Gemälden von Poussin präsentiert. Darüber auf einem Berghang liegend der trunkene, schlafende Bacchus vor einem Schiffsrumpf aus Holz, wohl der Arche Noah, die gerade auf dem Berg Ararat gebaut wird. In der Bildmitte ist zudem ein kleines weißes Segelschiff zu erkennen. Figurenreiche, teils humorige Darstellung des bekannten Künstlers, der wohl hier Darstellungen aus der Bibel und der Mythologie zusammensetzt und in frischen leuchtenden Farben präsentiert. Questi temi sono presenti nell’opera di Poussin del primo periodo, quando opera in Francia tra 1612 e il 1624, e nel secondo periodo, che coincide con i primi anni a Roma tra il 1624 e il 1630. L'opera in esame nasce nell’ambiente romano, fortemente influenzato dalla sua presenza, ed il suo aspetto, tipicamente barocco, risulta essere tanto ricercato quanto ornamentale, divertente e giocoso, pur evidenziando un chiaro messaggio moralizzante. Rome is the place where Poussin loves and paints this theme taking it up from the vedute works of Titian. These themes are present in Poussin's work of the first period, when he worked in France between 1612 and 1624, and in the second period, which coincides with the first years in Rome between 1624 and 1630. The artwork in question was born in the Roman environment, strongly influenced by its presence, and its typically baroque appearance is as refined as it is ornamental, fun and playful, while highlighting a clear moralizing message.
