DAS LETZTE ABENDMAHL Öl auf Holz. Parkettiert. 74 x 103 cm. In ebonisiertem Profilrahmen mit Goldleiste. Bildauffassung in traditioneller Weise, entsprechend der italienischen Vorbilder: Jesus im Zentrum am gedeckten Tisch sitzend, an seiner Schulter der Heilige Johannes Evangelist, seitlich die weiteren Jünger. An der rechten Bildecke Judas mit einem Geldbeutel, farbikongrafisch entsprechend gelb gekleidet. Auf dem Tisch stilllebenhaftes Fleischstück und Brote sowie Messer neben Trinkgefäßen angerichtet. Der Manierismus der Zeit zeigt sich deutlich in den leuchtenden changierenden Farben der Gewänder und in den betont gedrehten Haltungen einiger Figuren. (Gouda, 1523 - Bruges, 1584) San Nicodemo Olio su tavola, cm 49X25 Stabilitosi a Bruges intorno al 1540, nel 1543 fu ammesso alla corporazione dei pittori della città; nello stesso periodo si sposì con la sorella del pittore locale Lancelot Blondeel. La sua produzione eccelle nel genere ritrattistico ma si dedicì a dipingere scene allegoriche e religiose, come il monumentale Giudizio universale (olio su tela, cm 228,5X181) ospitato nel Groeningemuseum di Bruges. La sua produzione comprende 40 dipinti firmati o documentati e altri 30 attribuiti. Realizzì anche progetti architettonici per la celebrazione dell'ingresso a Bruges del principe Filippo II di Spagna nel 1549.

III, p. 28, fig. 89 (comme Ecole française du XVIe siècle) Commentaire : La grâce, l'équilibre et l'harmonie ne sont-ils pas à l'origine de toute beauté ? Si René Huygue publia en 1961 notre tableau dans son ouvrage 'L'Art et l'homme', c'est qu'il devait être convaincu qu'il correspondait à cette recette qui transforme un tableau en œuvre d'art. La douceur qui émane du regard et de la position du modèle de cette Madeleine nous envoûte. Beauté classique, beauté antique, la sophistication de sa coiffure, son exécution raffinée, son regard très dessiné (nous percevons les traits de crayon sous-jacents) et le menton brugeois nous font très vite penser aux personnages féminins de Pierre Pourbus. Le fond noir et le cadrage ont amené la génération précédente à classer ce type d'iconographie sous l'appellation d'Ecole de Fontainebleau, mais si Pierre Pourbus fit certainement un voyage sur le chantier international de ce palais royal, c'est plus à Bruges qu'il faut trouver l'origine de notre beau panneau de chêne. La figure de la Madeleine dans le grand retable de l'église Saint-Maurice à Annecy, peint en 1558 (fig.1), celle de la Vierge dans l'Annonciation' des Musées communaux de Gouda, peinte en 1552 ou encore la Madeleine dans la 'Vierge, Madeleine et Saint Jean au pied de la Croix', chez Rob Smeets en 2008 nous confortent dans le fait que notre panneau aurait été peint par Pierre Pourbus dans les années 1550. Cette Madeleine semble avoir eu suffisamment de succès pour influencer d'autres artistes. Un panneau de même sujet et de mêmes dimensions avec un traitement proche bien que plus maladroit et naïf est notamment passé sur la marché de l'art en 2006 1. 1.
