A collection of eight antique etchings by the celebrated French artist Adolphe Martial Potemont, 1828 to 1883. The works depict various streets, boulevards, and notable landmarks of Paris, including views of the Theatre Dejazet, Passage de lOpera, and Passage Jouffroy. Signed with the artists initials on the plate. Dating from circa the 1870s or 1880s. Matted and exposed on two frames, each containing four etchings. Antique French Prints And Art Collectibles.

Signiert, eigenh. als "1ère épreuve" bezeichnet. -- -- Der Landschaftsmaler und Radierer Adolphe Potémont, der auch das Pseudonym Martial benutzte, war ein Schüler von Léon Cogniet und Félix Brissot de Warville. Er radierte eine große Zahl von Pariser Stadtansichten und veröffentlichte mehrere Folgen mit Genredarstellungen aus dem Pariser Großstadtleben. Die vorliegende eindrucksvolle Darstellung einer eleganten Pariserin verkörpert das Lebensgefühl der Belle Époque auf vollkommene Weise. Prachtvoller, kontrastreicher Druck mit dem vollen Rand. Etwas stockfleckig und knittrig im Rand, geringfügige Erhaltungsmängel ebenda, sonst gut erhalten. Adolphe-Martial Potemont (1828-1883). Title: Marche des Innocents 1837. Medium: Etching. Size: 8 x 5 � (20.3 x 14 cm). Artist signature: AP. Martial. Provenance: Ursula Hobson fine art framing, inc. Philadelphia. Condition: Good, waving throughout paper. Not examined outside of frame. Published: Paris 1843 (Designed 1837-1843). Description: This piece depicts the �Marche de Innocents� or the innocent market. It was one of the ancestors of the central market in the early nineteenth century, built on top of a mass grave. In the picture, there is a large crowd making up the market throughout the page. Off centered, and the main focus of the etching is La fontaine des innocents, a four sided doming fountain. The skyline of buildings line the background of the page and are depicted much lighter, making the fountain seem more in focus. The sky behing the buildings is shaded and gray. Below the picture on the right hand side in Capital letters reads �Marche des Innocents 1837�, which translates to Innocent Market 1837. On the bottom in the center of the page are two separate writings, however both are very faint and unable to read. The left hand side provides the artist� signature, he combined the A and P as on symbol, and his last name �Martial�. This marketplace no longer exists. Have a similar item to sell?
