(marg. damp stains, outer margin of title strengthened, sm. part of blank margin of f. 13 torn off (lacking a few words of marginalia), sm. stains on very occ. ff., a few sm. marginal tears without loss). Hybrid binding: old vellum covers, modern joints and spine (flyleaves and pastedowns renewed). Rare first (only?) edition of the history of the Franciscan order by Ridolfi (1536-1601), bishop of Senigallia and Venosa. Illustrated by Girolamo Porro with 1 engr. title and 142 woodcuts in text within orn. borders and with captions (genealogical trees of St Francis and of Fransiscans on a boat, 50 historical vignettes showing a.o. events of St Francis' life, 44 full-page portraits and 46 coat of arms).     GIROLAMO PORRO Padua 1520 - 1604 (?); war tätig in Venedig und Rom Landschaft mit Ruinen. In zarten Deckfarben von fremder Hand aquarellierte Radierung nach D. Campagnola. Mit den Namenszügen der Künstler in der Platte. 23,9 x 37,6 cm (Blatt). Meist mit winzigem Rändchen um die Einfassungslinie. Etwas wellig und leicht braun- bzw. wasserfleckig. Mit hinterlegtem, ca. 22 cm langem Einriß im linken Drittel der Darstellung. Verso mit Spuren alter Montierung. Sammlung Philipp Herrmann, Karlsruhe (Lugt 1352 a). [bg]

    Landschaft mit Ruinen. Radierung nach Domenico Campagnola. 24,1 x 38,2 cm. Moschini pp 34/37. Wz. Fleurs-de-Lis im Kreis. Girolamo Porro war Schüler von Enea Vico und Mitarbeiter von Giovanni Battista Franco. Ausgezeichneter Druck mit schmalem Rändchen. Vertikale Mittelfalte, geringfügig fleckig, vereinzelt Quetschfältchen vom Druck, auf Untersatzkarton montiert, winzige Fehlstelle im weißen rechten mittleren Rand, einzelne sehr sorgfältig geschlossene Einrisschen überwiegend im weißen Rand, sonst sehr schönes Exemplar. Mit unbekanntem Sammlerstempel (nicht bei Lugt) verso auf dem Untersatzkarton. Selten.
