    Est: €8,000 - €12,000

FILIPPO PORRI, A CARVED FRUITWOOD FIGURE OF A MONK SAINT, BY FILIPPO PORRI A CARVED FRUITWOOD FIGURE OF A MONK SAINT, BY FILIPPO PORRI A carved fruitwood figure of a Monk Saint, by Filippo Porri. Carved in the round and partially free-standing. The saint is shown standing on a round plinth, with his foot resting on a treestump from which a delicate free-standing branch grows. Especially the treatment of the physiognomy, cloak, long cowl and sandals show the fine quality of the figure's carving. The underside of the book is signed "FILIPVS DE PORIS F". The statue, which can presumably be dated around 1660, formerly belonged to the collection of the director of the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett Friedrich Lippmann, but was sold at auction in 1912 for 1650 Marks.
