    POPE, Kerig (American, b. 1935) Moon. 1971. Pastel, graphite and collage on paper. Image: 22 x 28”. Frame: 29 x 35 ¼” Signed and dated lower right. A group of extra-terrestrial looking creatures and organisms hanging out on a pod of some imaginative type. Looks like a travel poster for the Moon. This work is similar to other pastels in the collections of the MCA and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Kerig Pope is a Chicago artist. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute in the early 1960’s. Pope studied with Imagist mentor Whiney Halstead. Pope was heavily influenced by Surrealism and developed his own style often working with pastel. In the 1960s, 70’s and 80’s he worked for Playboy with art director Art Paul. Not examined out of frame. Good condition. Provenance: Estate of Richard Christiansen.
