His parents are Paulassie and Ishuhungitok Pootoogook. Although he began drawing in the 1980's, he became one of the leaders of the new generation of artists in Cape Dorset that excelled at drawing in the late 2000's. He had several successful solo exhibitions prior to his death in 2014.
