His landscapes are reminiscent of geological sections from old nature textbooks, showing at the same time the outside, a primeval landscape with mountains, volcanoes and the horizon, and the inside, the layers of earth with amoeba-like creatures, pumps and body cross-sections. His 1975 work "Landscape" is considered a prime example of Pongrat's dreamlike worlds, refreshing the Austrian art market with its colorful and expressive scenes.

signed, dated and with dedication lower right,framed. Peter Pongratz was born in Graz, and later studied printmaking in Vienna and Berlin. In 1968, he co-founded the group Wirklichkeiten that played a significant role in the Viennese art scene in the 70´s. His works inspired by abstract expressionism, prehistoric- and naïve art, hang today in the collections of every well known art institution of Vienna. This drawing showcases many beloved aspects of his art: the organic shapes, the immediacy and decisiveness of the line, as well as the lively colors of his larger works. The dedication in the lower right corner reads the birthday greeting “Alles Liebe zum Geburtstag”.
