    Watercolor painting by Theresa Pollak (Am 1899-1922) of a harbor scene with 3 figures and sailboat with visible art measuring approx. 20.75" W x 15" H in gold tone wood (with minor wear) approx. 29" W x 23" H. Catalogue Note: Theresa Pollak was a nationally recognized artist who dedicated her life to art education. Her works have been widely exhibited, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. Pollak is credited with introducing modern art to Richmond. She built the foundation of what is now Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, where she taught between 1928 and 1969, and also founded the art program at her alma mater, the University of Richmond, in the 1930s.

    THERESA POLLAK (RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, 1899-2002) ABSTRACT PAINTING, watercolor on paper, depicting a stairway down to a boat house, signed "Theresa Pollak" lower right. Conservation matted and framed. Together with a hand-written letter from Pollak to Mrs. Lewis H. Blair of Richmond concerning the commission of a painting she wrote in 1923 while attending the Art Students League of New York. First half 20th century. 8 3/4" x 11 3/4" sight, 16" x 18 1/2" OA. Catalogue Note: Theresa Pollak was a nationally recognized artist who dedicated her life to art education. Her works have been widely exhibited, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. Pollak is credited with introducing modern art to Richmond. She built the foundation of what is now Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, where she taught between 1928 and 1969, and also founded the art program at her alma mater, the University of Richmond, in the 1930s. Her paintings rarely come to market, with only six sales records since 1996.
