JOSÉ PLANES PEÑALVER (Espinardo, Murcia, 1891 - 1974). "Female nude". Carved wood. Signed. Measurements: 38,5 x 7,5 x 7,5 cm. José Planes began his training with José María Sobejano at the Círculo Católico de Obreros de Murcia and in the classes of the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País of the same city. Later he entered the workshop of Anastasio Martínez Hernández, and by this time he expanded his production to include not only traditional Nativity figures, but also portraits and some outdoor works. Once he finished his training, he established his own workshop with the painter Pedro Flores. In 1912 he entered the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, and at the same time he did his military service while he began to achieve great recognition as a sculptor. In 1918 he exhibited for the first time in an exhibition of great artistic relevance, held at the Ateneo de Madrid, followed by others in Spain and abroad, being finally awarded in 1920 and 1924 at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. In 1927 he settled in Madrid, and came into contact with the avant-garde of the time, although in 1933 he decided to return to his native Murcia, where he became the founder of the School of Arts and Crafts and in 1960 he was named a member of the San Fernando Academy. His works are currently preserved in numerous collections and religious centers, both in Spain and Latin America.

    Est: €7,000 - €8,000

JOSÉ PLANES PEÑALVER (Espinardo, Murcia, 1891 - 1974). Untitled. Bronze and wooden base. Signed and justified on the base. Measurements: 97,5 x 34 x 24 cm; 5 x 30 x 30 x 30 cm (base). Round sculpture made entirely in bronze, which rests on a wooden base. The work represents a nude woman whose inspiration follows the models of an iconography taken directly from Greco-Latin statuary, adopting a soft contrapposto. The treatment of the anatomy and the face also reveals the artist's fidelity to classical models. The nude, smooth body of the young woman stands out for the movement of her body, but above all for the fine, soft technical work of the work, resulting in blurred forms and delicate volumes, designed to capture the viewer's admiration. As if a beautiful woman had been transformed into a statue, or even as if the stone had been translated into living flesh. José Planes began his training with José María Sobejano at the Círculo Católico de Obreros in Murcia and in classes at the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País in the same city. He later joined the workshop of Anastasio Martínez Hernández, and by this time he had expanded his production to include not only traditional Nativity figures, but also portraits and some outdoor works. JOSÉ PLANES PEÑALVER (Espinardo, Murcia, 1891 - 1974). Untitled. Bronze. Signed on the base. Size: 75 x 18 x 15 cm. Bronze sculpture representing the body of a woman in an abstract way. The piece is defined by the use of emphatic, synthetic and volumetric lines due to the fact that the author has used an aesthetic where the form and its exercise predominate over the detail. The piece presents a schematic nature of forms reduced to geometric planes and elongated pieces, subjected in the process of elaboration to a reality simplified to the maximum.
