Bei dem beeindruckenden Blatt handelt es sich um den Titel der Antiquités de Pompeia aus der Serie der Antiquités de la Grande Grèce... Das umfangreiche Werk, das schließlich drei Bände und über 100 Tafeln umfassen sollte, basierte auf Zeichnungen, die Vater und Sohn bereits 1770-78 während mehrerer Besuche der Ausgrabungen von Pompeji nach freigelegten Gebäuden und Gegenständen sowie Plänen und Freskenrekonstruktionen angefertigt hatten. Das Titelblatt zeigt eine Kombination bildhauerischer und architektonischer Elemente Pompejis, aus deren Mitte Flammen lodern, und gibt den dokumentarischen Zweck der Sammlung an: "INCENDIO CONSUMPTUM RESTITUIT". Ganz ausgezeichneter Druck mit Rand um die Plattenkante. Teils minimal berieben, vollständig aufgezogen, im linken Rand drei größere ausgebesserte Löcher, Ausriss der rechten oberen Ecke im weißen Rand, reparierter Riss im rechten Rand, weitere Randmängel und Löchlein, geringfügig angestaubt und gebrauchsspurig, sonst schön. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Francesco Piranesi schuf diese beeindruckende Darstellung der Zerstörung Pompejis nach einer Zeichnung seines Vaters Giovanni Battista und als erste Tafel des ersten Bandes der Antiquités de la Grande Grèce, der 1804 erschien. Das umfangreiche Werk, das schließlich drei Bände und über 100 Tafeln umfassen sollte, basierte auf Zeichnungen, die Vater und Sohn bereits 1770-78 während mehrerer Besuche der Ausgrabungen von Pompeji nach freigelegten Gebäuden und Gegenständen sowie Plänen und Freskenrekonstruktionen angefertigt hatten. Das in seiner Inszenierung und dramatischen Beleuchtung fast modern wirkende Blatt liegt in einem prachtvollen, tief schwarz druckenden Abzug mit dem vollen Rand vor. Nicht gebundene Exemplare befinden sich in Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, Inv. RP-P-2010-147) und Rom (Calcografia, Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Inv. S-CL2424_19878), letzteres in deutlich schwächerer Druckqualität. Paris 1805-1806. -- Eindrucksvolle Darstellungen der ausgegrabenen Stadt Pompeji mit antiken Staffagen wohl aus dem Werk "Antiquités de la Grande-Gréce". Enthält "Vue de l'Aspect du temple d'Isis, et des deux ailes de son Peristile, le tout pris de face" und "Vue intérieure d'une partie de la maison de Campagne". Oberhalb am Plattenrand nummeriert "CLII" und "LXVI". – Breiter Rand mit Mittelfalz. Papierbedingt gebräunt, braunfleckig, mit größeren und kleineren Einrissen, leicht stockfleckig und mit umgeknickten Ecken. Sehr gratiger Druck.
