Murray Pipher is a senior citizen, a lover of the rural scene, a keen observer of nature and a devotee of local heritage.

He loves to explore the play of light and shadow on natural forms and to present a unique view of familiar things. His chosen medium is acrylic and he paints on both masonite and canvas.Murray retired at the end of 1999 from a career in advertising and sales promotion and began painting again after a hiatus of almost 40 years.
He is a sixth generation resident of the Markham community – the Pipher family settled in Markham Township in 1801 – and. except for a six-month sojourn in Switzerland, Murray has lived in the area all his life. He was born in Lemonville, educated in Stouffville, lived in the Town of Markham for 36 years and now resides in Unionville.

While Murray primarily paints subjects that attract his interest, he accepts a limited number of commissions from time to time.
